A new regional terminal, expanded car parking facilities and apron area have been recently completed in time for the 2007 Americas Cup. The runway has been also lengthened by 500m.
Valencia Airport is the main base of Iberia’s regional carrier Air Nostrum. Irish low-cost airline Ryanair used the airport as a hub since 2007 but decided to close it in November 2008 following a row over subsidies by the airport authorities.
Valencia airport is situated 9km west of the city of Valencia, on the A3 highway which connects Valencia with Madrid, as well as being close to the A7, to Barcelona and into France. Valencia Airport is also well served by public transport. It is connected to Valencia by a regular bus line (MetroBus) every 10 minutes from 05:00 to 23:40 which takes 45 minutes, while
the shuttle service (Aerobus) to city centre takes only 20 minutes. The metro network (lines 3 and 5) also connect the airport to the city centre (15 minutes), the Railway Station Estación del Norte and the Port (fare: € 1,90, winter 2009) with regular 30-minute departures.
In addition, taxis run at all hours and go from the large taxi rank situated directly outside of Arrivals and rates into Valencia are quite reasonable. The taxis are on a first come, first served basis and operate on a queue system.
